Introduction and Home Page

“If you look at the biography of any master or holy man, you will discover an absolutely ordinary person except for the fact they were determined to share the very best of themselves with others”.  Paul Coelho.

As we all know world leaders are still circling the critical issues of global warming, people are still obsessed with the pursuit of material comforts despite the recent economic shake-down, whilst billions of others continue to live in sheer poverty with AIDS and TB claiming more and more lives.  And most of these are innocent children.

Bangkok, the capital of Thailand has a population of over 10 million. 2 million of its inhabitants barely exist in slums where violence, drugs and disease are a way of life.

For over 35 years, one man, Father Joe Maier, has been making a critical difference to the people in these slums.

It is now our intention to share Father Joe’s compassion and achievements with the rest of the world through the making of a 90 mins feature documentary, Father Joe & the Bangkok Slaughterhouse.

An Irish / American Catholic priest, Father Joe has put 70,000 slum children in Bangkok through school and has built or re-built over 10,000 slum houses.  A man who has helped thousands of children to reclaim their childhood and who has helped the sick, the needy and the dying.  This is a man who has been awarded the honour of Ambassador for the Protection of Children in Thailand and who fights and screams out in rage at the ruthlessness and sheer evil of child abuse predators who continue to destroy and tear apart the lives of small children.  This is a story about how one man’s compassion, obsession and sheer doggedness can make a difference and how people who have nothing have everything.  This is a story about the truth and a man who speaks and fights for the truth.  This is a real story in a real world where life and death and God and the Devil ride side by side.  One man, one dream, one world.

Our film is about how one person can make a difference and how we all can join in to be part of this life-changing crusade.

The 90 mins feature documentary, Father Joe and the Bangkok Slaughterhouse, will be no ordinary film – on the one hand, it will graphically show the horror and evil that lurks around every corner of the Klong Toey slum – pedophilia & child abuse, drug addiction & violence and the devastating effects of AIDS & TB.  On the other, it will show goodness, resilience, morality, happiness & laughter in the face of the worst that life has to offer.

By making the world more aware about these appalling conditions we can give children back their childhood and try to ask for their forgiveness for our past apathy and ignorance.

“The world is a dangerous place, not because of those who do evil, but because of those who look on and do nothing”. Albert Einstein.
